The mantras are syllables,
words or whole phrases, also combination of sounds that
were discovered by the ancient rishis (sages) in a state of deep meditation, superconsciousness. Because these sounds really exist in that dimension, they are
universal– regardless race, religion, nation and
so on. And for the same reason they
can lead аnybody to a
state of deep meditation, to a new degree of consciousness .The very word “mantra” comes from the root „man” (manana – think) and
„tra” (trana – protection, freedom), i.e.. mantra is
such a form of thought , focused thought-form, that protects us or releases us (from
Samsara – our attachments
and grips to ourself , our ego, our habits) . It is said
that the habit is a second nature of the human, even one can say it is first nothing but the habit moulds the character of the man
– all features are just accumulation of habits, repeats of one and the same model of thinking. Hence the mantras can enable to
change the character, in a positive way – to free us from bad tendencies, from these habits which
enslave us – anger, greed, lust, fear (which are increasing in this
era of technological progress, but also of spiritual crisis).
Even if we observe the sounds from the nature, we will be convinced of their influence. For instance, it is found, that the thunderbolt change the bio-rhytmes in the animals as well as the humans. The light, silent,
monotonous murmur of the mountain streamlet can inspire us to create. Other effects of sound – the words, uttered with anger, hatred or whatever emotion, find their reflection in the listeners (the people who they
were addressed to), even the animals are able of perceiving that. As we know, sounds with particular frequency and power can crash a glass.
In the Bible is said: „“In
the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God…All things were made by him; and without
him was not anything made that was made” (John 1:1-3)
„Word” is this primal sound whose
vibrations created the universe –
this is AUM (OM) of
The Vedas, which is Amen, Amin, Hum in
different nations.
Here an experiment is curious to be noted, made by Dr. Hans Jane of Zurich, around
1970, in his Wave Phenomena
Research Institute. He invented an instrument, who could convert sounds into forms, which he called tonoscope.
T
With the chanting of Aum or Оm, on the screen appeared very specific geometrical figure which responds to the sound vibrations of the mantra (see below).
He concluded that the specific vibrations of the mantras, as was invented by the rishis of yore, bring about the generation of an immense energy, mental inspiration and consequent formation of healthy and happy society.
What is peculiar about mantras is that in them is stored and focused an enormous and transformating energy,
which can be “unlocked” with repeated chanting. The success in this
practice is called mantra-siddhi. Only one who possesses this mantra siddhi can he transmit mantras to other people with this “key”
to the energy of mantra so that the
practice to be really effective and possible even with less repeats. In
the case of Dhyanyogi Omdasji who mastered mantras, he directly transmits that energy with his chanting (Divine
Sound) and the effect is
deep relaxation, physical comfort, meditation – in short, harmony and peace of all levels.
